The graph below shows significant earthquakes by year from 1973 through today (only earthquakes that are greater than or equal to magnitude 6.0 are shown). It is often useful to limit the display to a certain 'class' of earthquakes to improve the accuracy of trend analysis. Over the years, earthquake monitoring equipment has become more prevalent and sensitive, leading to the ability to record more and more earthquakes that might have previously gone unnoticed. However, this is more true for smaller earthquakes, and less true for more significant earthquakes. Limiting the view to higher magnitudes helps to correct for this possibility.

You can experiment with other ways of viewing this earthquake information by clicking on the four different menu options to the left and top of the graph.

Quake Strength - You can use this option to limit the view to only the more significant earthquakes, or to include even the smallest earthquakes in the graph.

Data to Graph - Change this to show different types of information. You can experiment with this setting and then use the help button again to see an explanation of each of the available options.

Graph by - Use this menu to see the summary of earthquakes by year or by month.

Graph Style - This menu item allows you to see either the raw information (first option), earthquakes, or to choose between two different ways of examining the trend over time.

Tied to all of this earthquake activity is the recent uptick in volcanic activity.

SI/USGS Weekly Volcanic Activity Report

We are all sitting on continental shelves; they are all moving. Sometimes they move more than others, and when one moves in a big way, it makes the others move in a more significant way. Earthquakes, volcanos and tsunamis are all a result of this movement. The areas that have experienced these disasters are all on fault lines, which is the gap between the continental shelves. That's why some areas are more likely to experience these things than others. - woody

According to the Center for Research on Epidemiology of Disasters, the number of catastrophic events has more than doubled since the 1980s, while the Red Cross estimates that the economic damage from disasters rose fivefold to $629 billion between 1985 and 2005. That doesn't necessarily mean that volcanoes and quakes are getting worse -- rather that there are more of us living in areas where we might be affected by a disaster, and we have more to lose. - Iceland Fallout: Why a Minor Volcano Causes Major Disruptions, TIME Magazine, April 16, 2010

Earthquakes, Tsunamis, Rogue Waves

The outer shell of the earth is composed of a number of almost rigid "plates" that slowly move against each other. It is this geological feature that provides the conditions for major earthquakes to occur. Although they can occur anywhere on the planet with little warning, the most extreme earthquakes occur near the plate boundaries. Stresses can build up at these boundaries, caused by the general movement of the plates against each other over time, which is "bottled up" at the plate boundaries. It may then be released suddenly in the form of an earthquake. Several boundaries are under deep water, but the effects spread for many miles, and so can be felt on land in these cases too. Tsunamis may be triggered, bringing damage to coastal communities in a wide area. Powerful earthquakes may also initiate volcanoes to erupt in the vicinity or further afield, although this is not always the case, as it depends on the state of the magma chamber at the time.

A measurement of earthquake magnitude is the Richter scale. On a logarithmic scale this measures the size and energy released from an earthquake. On this scale, there are usually dozens of "earthquakes" occurring daily, with a magnitude of below 2.5. These are usually not felt by humans. It takes a much stronger earthquake for damage to occur. For example, a magnitude 6.0 earthquake is ten times larger than a magnitude 5.0, but it has 32 times the amount of energy released, so is more likely to cause damage.

An earthquake registering between 6.0 and 6.9 could be considered fairly major. Above 7.0, the earthquake is considered more serious, with a larger area of damage anticipated. Loss of life is dependent on location (close to settlements etc.) as well as whether or not buildings can withstand the earth tremors. The larger the magnitude, the more likely fatalities will occur.

The largest earthquake in recent history measured about 9.5 (Chile, 1960). It is not beyond possibility that a massive earthquake of magnitude 10.0 or 10.1 on the Richter scale could be produced on the planet, in extreme circumstances. This level of quake would cause damage to the earth's crust on a truly global scale, with the fault line likely to circle the entire planet, causing massive destruction on many continents and probably unbelievably high death tolls -- although, by contrast, the energy produced by such an earthquake is only a tiny fraction of the energy the earth receives every day from the sun in the form of light and heat!

Below is a graph showing how the number of all magnitude earthquakes has grown over recent years. Although we are primarily concerned with long-term trends for larger magnitude earthquakes in this report, it is worth noting the trend as it applies to all earthquakes -- whether large or small, over a 30 years period or so from the mid-1970s. However, this trend needs to be understood in relation to the increase in seismographs.

Certainly, in the last 25 years, more lower-intensity earthquakes have been noticed because of a general increase in the number of seismograph stations across the world and improved global communications. This increase has helped seismological centers to locate many small earthquakes which were undetected in earlier decades. Therefore, an upward trend is not unexpected in the graph, although the rise in the number of large earthquakes will be of more significance to our assessment of the trend. By limiting the range of earthquakes being counted in this report to magnitude 7 or above, it means these earthquakes can easily be identified by a limited number of seismographs,;and we have ensured that any increase in frequency for these larger earthquakes cannot be down to the increase in overall detection rates in this 25-year period, as all these larger earthquakes are able to be easily detected with fewer seismograph stations.

Graph above provided by DL Research. - http://www.dlindquist.com

The fluctuations in earthquake numbers for individual years show how unpredictable earthquakes are, and viewing on a year by year basis might make trend analysis harder to pinpoint.

For the purposes of statistical recording below, only those earthquakes registering ABOVE 6.9 (i.e., level of 7.0 or above) are now counted below. Major earthquakes, rather than the more regular and frequent lower-intensity earthquakes, are judged to have a greater impact on geographic reach and damage, and are more likely to be accurately recorded over a longer period of history.

It is interesting to note the following statistical records for earthquakes since 1863 across the planet. I have chosen a relatively long period each time to allow true trends to be seen and smooth out the effects of short term counts (see below).

When it comes to detection rates for major earthquakes over 100 years ago, it is worth noting that our ability to record all earthquakes of 7.0 or above occurring across the planet prior to 1901 is uncertain, and so there is likely to be some incomplete data in the 19th century because of this. It was only in 1897 that a global network of seismographs was deployed. The numbers shown for the period from 1863 to 1900 may therefore be lower than actual, although it is unlikely to be more than three or four times that shown (records for major 'quakes were fairly good from the 1880s onwards). It is acknowledged that care and good judgment must be exercised in using global seismic data, as there may still be incomplete data from our sources even after 1901. This report has been based on data available from USGS (NEIC) and other online sources, such as Wikipedia, in an attempt to cover as much of the available data as possible .
DATES FROM & TO PERIOD NO. EARTHQUAKES (Mag. > 6.99)
--------------------------- ----------- ------------------------------
1863 to 1900 incl 38 yrs: 12
1901 to 1938 incl 38 yrs: 53 [Reference list 1901 to 1938]
1939 to 1976 incl 38 yrs: 71 [ Reference list 1939 to 1976]
1977 to 2014 incl 38 yrs: 151* (to April 2010) predict >190 in total [Reference list 1977 to date]

* Although periods are shown up to 2014, this report was initially written in 2006. Therefore the final period (from 1977) will be updated as required until the end of 2014. In the meantime a predicted total is shown.

The earthquake (Baja California, Mexico) on 4th April 2010 is the last included in these numbers.

Apart from the "long-term" trends shown above, which show an ongoing persistent increase, it is perhaps more stark to record that earthquakes across the planet show a marked increase in activity since 1997. There are more major earthquakes occurring now, and this on an ever more frequent basis.

Trends since 1986

For example, between 1986 and 1996 (incl), a period of 11 years, there were "just" 15 earthquakes listed by USGS of magnitude 7.0 or greater. This is not markedly different (albeit a slight decrease) from previous (similar periods) of 20th century, where an average of about 18 might be expected.

But between 1997 and 2007 (incl), a period of only 11 years, there were 99 earthquakes with magnitude 7.0 or greater : This is more than a six-fold increase on the previous similar period -- and is a stark increase on any earlier decades in 20th century too.

The trends in nature here, particularly from 1997, support the wider realization of prophesy about the "End Times," namely that an increase in earthquake activity is a pre-requisite for the "second coming of Jesus Christ" foretold in the bible. It does not indicate how close we are to this event, but suggests it is not too far away.

About the "End Times"

Speaking of the signs that will happen, leading to His return to judge the peoples of earth (at the end of the age), Jesus is quoted as saying ‘in various places there will be famines and earthquakes -- these things are the beginning of sorrow’ (ref: Matthew 24)... This passage can be interpreted to mean that earthquakes (and famines -- caused primarily through lack of rainfall in certain areas) will increase both in frequency and impact/strength prior to Jesus’ second coming. Although Jesus is clear that no one will know the day or the hour, and His return will indeed happen “when you do not expect,” he does give us broad pointers, one of these being natural events like earthquakes

Future Trends

Past performance cannot necessarily be taken as a clear indication of future trends (unfortunately many scientists tend to assume too often that it is, by simply projecting forward on an existing trend, without considering other factors) so we must be careful how past events are interpreted. However, it is clear we are currently living in a time when earthquake frequency has increased; it will be interesting to see if the immediate future maintains this trend.

Other Notes

When there are multiple earthquakes (over 7.0) occurring within five days of each other in the same region, only one has been counted. This may result in slightly different (lower) numbers for earthquakes than might otherwise be listed, although consistency in this approach makes historical comparisons more reliable, as large after-shocks were not always recorded (in addition to the "main" quake) in previous decades.

NASA's Project Blue Beam (Excerpt)
By Serge Monast
Originally Published in 1994

The infamous NASA [National Aeronautics and Space Administration] Blue Beam Project has four different steps in order to implement the new age religion with antichrist at its head.

We must remember that the new age religion is the very foundation for the new world government, without which religion the dictatorship of the New World Order is completely impossible. I'll repeat that without a universal belief in the new age religion the success of the New World Order will be impossible! That is why the Blue Beam Project is so important to them, but has been so well hidden until now.
  1. Engineered Earthquakes & Hoaxed 'Discoveries'

The first step in the NASA Blue Beam Project concerns the breakdown [re-evaluation] of all archaeological knowledge. It deals with the set-up, with artificially created earthquakes at certain precise locations on the planet, of supposedly new discoveries which will finally explain to all people the "error" of all fundamental religious doctrines.

The falsification of this information will be used to make all nations believe that their religious doctrines have been misunderstood for centuries and misinterpreted. Psychological preparations for that first step have already been implemented with the film, '2001: A Space Odyssey;' the StarTrek series, and 'Independence Day;' all of which deal with invasions from space and the coming together of all nations to repel the invaders. The last film, 'Jurrassic Park,' deals with the theories of evolution and claims God's words are lies.
    Hoaxed "Discoveries'

What is important to understand in the first step is that those earthquakes will hit at different parts of the world where scientific and archaeological teachings have indicated that arcane mysteries have been buried. By those types of earthquakes, it will be possible for scientists to rediscover those arcane mysteries, which will be used to discredit all fundamental religious doctrines.

This is the first preparation for the plan for humanity, because what they want to do is destroy the beliefs of all Christians and Muslims on the planet. To do that, they need some false 'proof' from the far past that will prove to all nations that their religions have all been misinterpreted and misunderstood.

truTV's Conspiracy Theory with Jesse Ventura
Week One: HAARP (Originally Aired on December 2, 2009)

Is it a communications research project or a doomsday weapon that can change the weather, shoot satellites out of orbit–and trigger mind control across the globe? Jesse Ventura and his team head north to a remote region of Alaska to confront the military installation called HAARP.

Scientists are on the verge of being able to predict the time, place and even the size of earthquakes... Recently, in fact, U.S. and Russian seismologists have quietly—and correctly—forecast several other earthquakes. In China, where the understanding of earthquakes has become an important national goal, ten quakes are said to have been accurately predicted in the past few years. Before two large recent quakes, the government confidently issued public warnings and evacuated vulnerable areas. Buoyed by their rapid progress in forecasting, scientists are already talking about an even more exciting possibility: actually taming the more destructive convulsions of the earth... The control of quakes would be an enormous victory over nature at its crudest. Along with war and pestilence, earthquakes rank as one of the world's great killers. - Forecast: Earthquake, TIME Magazine, September 1, 1975
